Overnight crash kills 34-year-old man, closes Chinatown Feeder Ramp for several hours early Thursday morning

CHICAGO — A fatal one-vehicle crash overnight closed the Chinatown Feeder Ramp in both directions early Thursday morning on the city’s Near South Side.

Alexander Smith, 34, was killed in the crash, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Illinois State Police says the crash happened just after 1 a.m. Thursday. The sole occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ramp was fully reopened around 4 a.m., according to ISP.
