IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 40-year-old man was struck by lightning Wednesday in northern Iredell County as strong thunderstorms rolled through the region.

Emergency crews responded to the scene on Branton Road, Wednesday, July 9. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been released, but officials confirmed he was alive when transported.

The lightning strike happened as severe weather moved through Iredell County and the Charlotte area. Thunderstorms brought intense lightning, heavy rain, and strong winds throughout the afternoon and evening.

The storms are part of a broader weather pattern bringing daily chances for afternoon and evening thunderstorms across the region. Thursday is expected to bring more severe weather, with a Marginal Risk for strong storms capable of damaging winds and localized flooding.

The storm threat will pick up again after 3 p.m. Thursday. Looking ahead, temperatures will stay hot, with highs in the low to mid-90s through the weekend. Daily storm chances will continue as this active summer pattern sticks around into next week.
