According to authorities, on June 23, officials responded to a complaint from the manager of the Dollar General located at 5661 Highway 182, near Sunset. The manager said three unidentified individuals entered the store and requested to load nine prepaid VISA cards.
Officials said the individuals used a type of scamming device and apparent prior knowledge of the override procedures on the Dollar General point of sale software. This loaded $500 on each of the cards, giving the individuals a total of $4,500 of prepaid card value without paying anything to the store.
Anyone with information on this, or any other crime is asked to contact the St. Landry Crime Stoppers or St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
