BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Police are investigating the death of a 14-year-old after the child was found unresponsive in a home on the city’s west side last week.
According to Bloomington Police Department Captain Ryan Pedigo, officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of West Hays Court at approximately 7:30 a.m. on July 2, 2025, at the request of emergency medical personnel already on the scene. The juvenile’s mother told investigators she discovered the child unresponsive on the floor inside the home.
The teen was transported by ambulance to a local hospital but was pronounced dead at approximately 8:55 a.m., Pedigo said.
An autopsy was completed Monday, July 7. However, the cause and manner of death remain undetermined and are still pending. The investigation remains active.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Rob Shrake at (812) 349-3352.
Editor’s Note:
Community members have been posting on social media about this incident, including serious and disturbing allegations. However, The Bloomingtonian waited to report on the case until official information was released by law enforcement, due to the involvement of a minor and the gravity of the claims. We will not release the juvenile’s name, or the names of other involved parties, unless and until formal charges are filed or court documents are made available. As a journalistic organization, we are committed to publishing only information we can verify—either through our own reporting from the scene, interviews with witnesses (which is something police need to be doing first), or from official police or court records.
