LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – No one was injured when a building collapsed in downtown Linton Monday night, but three cars were heavily damaged.
According to Linton Mayor John Preble, the back wall of the old “Murphy’s Building” or more recently known as the “Variety Store” fell in and that caused the roof to collapse.
“There’s still unstable walls on both the westside and southside of the building and the northside as well,” Preble said.
The mayor said due to the buildings instability part of State Road 59 in the downtown area will remain closed.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said the closure of State Road 59 is between State Road 54 and SE “C” Street.
Mayor Preble said no one was in the building, on the sidewalk or in any of the damaged cars when the collapse happened.
