Staff report

Linton, Indiana – December 29, 2025

The National Weather Service is investigating whether a tornado moved through Linton during severe weather Sunday night, Dec. 28, after the agency issued an alert for rotating clouds in Greene County.

Linton photographer Shadley Cox shared several photos with The Bloomingtonian from downtown Linton on Monday morning, showing heavy damage to Sportsman’s Pub and nearby storefronts.

In Cox’s photos, the upper portion of the Sportsman’s Pub building appears torn open, with a large section of the roofline missing and upper-story windows knocked out or left hanging at odd angles. A pile of bricks and debris covered part of the street and sidewalk in front of the entrance, while smaller fragments were scattered along the curb line.

Other images show shattered glass spread across the sidewalk, including large green shards near the curb, and additional storefront damage nearby. One building appears to have a gaping opening above its display windows where an upper façade or ceiling area was blown out, exposing interior structure and leaving debris visible inside. Another storefront window area appears broken out, with holiday decorations still hanging in the damaged opening.

Cox said occupants of some buildings have been told not to go back inside following the storm. Cox is also a business owner of Shad’s Signs in Linton and said while his business didn’t receive a lot of storm damage, he can’t go back inside until cleared to do so.

The National Weather Service has not yet confirmed whether the damage was caused by a tornado.
