North Alabama river incident leaves 17-year-old dead

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has released new details about an incident on Elk River that left a 17-year-old girl dead Monday.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West said the incident happened at 1:34 p.m. on Elk River just off Wheeler Lake near Bream Bluff Road.

The ALEA said the incident happened when the teen from Tennessee fell from an inflatable tube being pulled by a Sea-Doo personal watercraft. After falling, authorities said a different Sea-Doo hit the girl, fatally injuring her.

The coroner said she was transported to Athens Limestone Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. He said she was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m.
