Health care town hall slated for Thursday in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Congressional House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee will host an informational town hall regarding its concerns about the president’s budget and health care.

Congressman Troy Carter stopped by the WGNO studio to speak with Moving New Orleans Forward anchor LBJ about the event.

“We’re fortunate to have a Democratic leader, Hakeem Jeffries, Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Congresswoman Annette Barragan. These are all members of the Steering and Policy Committee, who will be coming to New Orleans to be a part of this discussion,” said Carter.

Regarding the effects of the recently signed “Big, Beautiful Bill” signed into law by President Donald Trump, Carter offered:

“Some 17 million people will be cut off the rolls. We know that a third of the people of Louisiana, roughly 30% of people Louisiana are dependent on one way, some shape, form of fashion of, Medicaid. We have senior citizens living in assisted living facilities. We have Snap benefits for our young people, to make sure that meals we have veterans, we have individuals that are living with disabilities. We have the working poor people who work every day but still don’t make enough money to maintain health care. But now we have to educate people on what you have to do to maintain your positioning as those who we will fight to stay on the rolls, because there’s a mechanism that says every six months you have to renew. Well, have you had to renew your driver’s license every six months, most people wouldn’t have one.”

The town hall will happen at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 10, and you must register. Once registered, you will be given the location of the event.
