MEBANE, N.C. (WGHP) — County officials are confirming dozens of calls for service and at least one death after widespread flooding slammed into Alamance County on Sunday.

According to officials, since 6:45 p.m. on Sunday rescue personnel have responded to approximately 61 calls for service relating to water rescue or evacuation.

One person is confirmed to have died as a result of the weather event in Mebane.

Efforts are ongoing and officials cannot give any estimates on property loss or damage.

The county remains under a State of Emergency and many parts of the county are without power. The county asks that 911 only be used in life-threatening emergencies.

“Everyone is encouraged to avoid downed utility lines (even if they do not appear to be electrified), areas of moving water, and to use caution when attempting to cross standing water, as it may be deeper than it appears,” the county states.
