SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)- The CEO of Saferwatch says an app like theirs could be the solution to saving more lives during emergencies. The app sends out traditional emergency alerts, but receives them and connects users in a more modern way.

Geno Roefaro believes his emergency alert app, Saferwatch, embraces the community nature of the social media era and integrates that post-and-share mindset into a life-saving tool.

The app not only collects emergency information directly from social media posts, but it enables citizens to report incidents in real-time, which he says can be faster than calling 911.

Stating, “This is how you can say something, law enforcement promotes that all the time, see something, say something.”

Saferwatch monitors platforms 24/7 for instances, aiming to be effective in mass shootings or weather events when hundreds of calls can come in reporting the same or similar information to local authorities.

Local authorities can push out updates and also use the app to help reunite families in emergencies.
