OPELOUSAS, La. (
KLFY) — Two women were arrested in connection with a
shooting Saturday afternoon in Opelousas, authorities said.
Nyia Williams, 19, of Carencro, is charged with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, resisting an officer, obstruction of justice and simple criminal damage to property.
Breanna Lafountain, 22, of Opelousas, is charged with obstruction of justice.
Opelousas Police responded to a report of a disturbance just after 3 p.m. Saturday to an apartment in the 900 block of Bernice Street. Authorities said the incident involved multiple female subjects in which an unidentified female fired a single shot.
Officers said the suspect was still inside the apartment, and had reportedly locked herself in a room. OPD then requested SWAT assistance.
A subsequent review of surveillance footage revealed that the suspect had exited the residence through a rear door while officers were securing the scene, authorities said.
No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains active. No other details were released.
