On Thursday morning, 9-year-old Harshail Kumar was reported missing. Police were told that Harshail Kumar had last been seen at 10:15 a.m. at the Edge Apartments, located at 765 Montague Expressway.
Milpitas PD, the Santa Clara County Search and Rescue team, community members, and volunteers assisted in finding Harshail.
Harshail was found safe and unharmed on Friday. According to Milpitas PD, it was discovered that “he had been intentionally concealed by his mother, Rohnita Prasad, who falsely claimed he had gone missing.”
Prasad, 46, was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Child Endangerment, intimidating or dissuading a witness or victim, and filing a false police report.
The Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children Services, according to police, is working to determine an appropriate placement for Harshail.
In a statement, the department expressed gratitude to the agencies and community members who assisted with the search for Harshail.
“The safety and well-being of our community, especially our children, remains our top priority,” said the Milpitas Police Department. “We take all reports involving missing children seriously and will continue pursuing the truth with diligence and integrity.”
