Kivisto Field is the name of the new stadium turf. It will include a large Jayhawk in the center of the field and two Big 12 conference logo’s on the 25-yard lines. The end zones both read ‘KANSAS’ outlined in red and blue.
The words ‘Rock Chalk’ and ‘Jayhawk’ are showcased on the opposing sidelines as well.
The design was developed in partnership with Mammoth Sports Construction, the same company that developed new turf for Kansas’ baseball stadium, earlier this year.
Many fans sought to see the popular 1941 Warhawk logo in the center of the field. The decision to include the current Jayhawk logo instead of the popular 1941 logo was a hard one for Kansas Athletic Director Travis Goff, according to a post on X.
“I too initially leaned Warhawk. But strategy prevailed – our primary mark reaches millions who tune in for broadcasts. There are many tigers, wildcats, eagles & bulldogs, but only 1 Jayhawk,” the post said.
The new field is on track to be completed by the first home football game of the season, scheduled for August 23.
