SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux was at our station Thursday morning for his weekly visit during which he touched on a variety of topics including the Block by Block initiative, the downtown 4th of July celebration and a naturalization ceremony that took place at the Strand Theatre on July 2nd.

On the Block by Block initiative, Mayor Arceneaux says his office, along with other city departments, has completed two sweeps so far, one in the Ingleside neighborhood and one in the Highland neighborhood.

“We are taking this week off because of the holiday weekend, but next weekend we will be in Queensborough. Everyone is going to meet at the Bilberry Park,” says Mayor Arceneaux.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux also touched on the July 4th celebration happening downtown. He says he looks forward to a good turnout and meeting members of the community.

“My wife and I will be out there distributing some fans and hopefully meet a lot of citizens and have a great time,” says the mayor.

He also shared his experience being part of the Naturalization Ceremony that took place at the Strand Theatre on June 2nd. Fifty people from 23 different countries became United States citizens and recited their oath of allegiance.

“It’s really an inspiration. We had good remarks from the magistrate judge and the judge. Terrific performance by the Victory Bells,” says Mayor Arceneaux. “We had a great time, it was a great time at the Strand.”
