“London Padgett right now is a sophomore that’s playing. He’s done a nice job for us. We might end up having a quarterback situation by committee. I’m never opposed to playing two people. Luke is a big kid. This is really the first year he’s really played. He was an excellent baseball player and came out for the team last year and did a nice job. I think those two guys probably are the two guys that are in contention to get a lot of playing time,” Curtis said.
Either quarterback getting starter reps is not the original plan though. Drake Mason was in line to be the Patriots QB1 but had to transfer out of the program. Now though, Padgett and Martinez are looking at what Johnson did last season as they head into 2025.
“He’s a battler. He never stopped fighting in the playoffs. We went 4-5 in the regular season. Then we made it always the semifinals. I learned a lot from him,” Padgett said about Johnson.
“Just be tough. Find a way to get the first down, get touchdown and get the win,” Martinez added.
“I think they complement each other well, and I think that they will both have an opportunity to contribute to our team,” the Patriots head coach continued.
