WEBER COUNTY, Utah (
ABC4) — During a
public Weber County commission meeting, the Zoom feed was hacked for a couple of seconds, leading to inappropriate content being shared.
According to Jessika Clark, Weber County’s Public Relations Manager, a publicly broadcast meeting was hacked on June 24th for a few seconds, with visually inappropriate content.
The commissions meeting, which occurs weekly, has been broadcast using both YouTube and Zoom. Since Zoom allows the public to join the meeting call and comment remotely, there is an easily available link that anyone can access. Following this incident, the IT department was able to quickly take down the video. Additionally, Clark says that other programs have stricter parameters on access and that this is a unique incident.
Going forward, the commission meetings will not be held over Zoom. They will still be broadcast live on YouTube, though, and the meeting agendas are available online.
The public is encouraged to attend the meetings in person if they have comments on the agenda. If they are unavailable to attend in person, they can also contact their commissioners.
