Three men charged with murder after beating man to death in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Three men have been charged with murder after beating a man to death on the front steps of his Rockford home on Tuesday, according to police.

According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were called to the scene of a disturbance around 10 p.m.

There, deputies found a man dead on the front steps, suffering from severe head injuries.

He was identified as Ruben Hernandez, 43.

According to investigators, detectives determined that Melvin Richardson, 35, Andre Richardson Jr., 35, and Kevin Harris, 32, got into a fight with Hernandez earlier in the day and then returned later that night and beat him to death.

All three were arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

“This case is a reflection of the outstanding work and relentless dedication of the men and women of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Gary Caruana. “Our detectives moved quickly and professionally to identify those responsible, and I want to commend everyone involved for their efforts in delivering justice to the victim’s family.”
