Rockford man acquitted of 2020 murder of Rachel Dishman

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Joseph Peppers, 42, was found not guilty of the murder of Rachel Dishman in 2020 at a Winnebago County bench trial on Tuesday.

Peppers was charged with First Degree Murder, Aggravated Domestic Battery, and Concealment of a Homicidal Death after an investigation into Dishman’s death.

The 43-year-old Rockford woman was found dead in the 5900 block of Cunningham Road on October 27th, 2020.

Dishman was last seen two days prior and had been reported as missing.

The Winnebago County Coroner said Dishman died of blunt trauma to the head.

Peppers was charged with the crime in 2020. He appeared before Judge Jennifer Clifford for a bench trial in September 2025.

On Tuesday, he was found not guilty on all charges against him.
