Transportation analytics company INRIX expects Wednesday, July 2, and Sunday, July 6, to be the busiest days on the road, with the most congestion in the afternoon.
The travel rush for the Fourth of July weekend is well underway.
AAA expects 61.6 million people will travel by car, the highest volume on record.
“Wasn’t too bad. Came down yesterday. No real traffic. It was really chill,” driver Ali Rhanime said.
As for gas prices, Wednesday’s national average was $3.17 a gallon, down from $3.50 a year ago.
AAA said summer prices are the lowest they’ve been since 2021.
“Gas prices are about the same in Vermont, all the way down through. Traveling not so bad. There’s been a lot of construction, so I mean a couple jams, but not bad,” Thomas Pingree said.
At Reagan National Airport, the terminal was packed with people, but it moved smoothly.
“We got here really easily, and I got through OK and checked in,” one traveler said.
AAA is expecting a record number of travelers in the air, with nearly 5.84 million people flying.
“I’m headed over to Tampa and Sarasota with my aunt. We’re looking forward to probably, hopefully getting some time on the beach,” Nathanael Growth said.
Whether coming or going from the DMV, people are looking forward to quality time with their loved ones.
“Just hanging out with family, spending time in our nation’s capital,” Rhanime said.
