Dickinson County Sheriff Jerry Davis said in a press release that deputies were notified of a building on fire around 4:45 a.m. on July 1 in the 200 block of West Sixth Street in Solomon. Firefighters and first responders arriving at the scene found a home engulfed in flames.
Davis said that deputies helped a man get out of the burning home through a window while two other adults and a juvenile were able to get outside safely. Firefighters were told there was another woman still trapped within the home.
First responders tried to get inside through a doorway and a window but were unable to get inside due to the heat and smoke. Firefighters later found the woman dead inside the house.
Lance Feyh with the Office of the Kansas State Fire Marshal said the victim of the fire is 17-year-old Elizabeth L. Ohl. The cause of the fire has yet to be identified.
