Kelly issued a half-staff order on Tuesday, directing all flags to be lowered from sunup to sundown on Saturday, July 5 in honor of Phillips County Deputy Brandon Gaede who was killed on June 27. The half-staff order impacts flags at all state buildings, grounds and facilities.
“I am directing flags statewide be flown at half-staff to honor Phillips County Deputy Brandon Gaede, whose life was taken too soon while protecting his community,” Kelly said. “Each day, our law enforcement officers brave profound risks in service of their fellow Kansans. I extend my deepest condolences to Deputy Gaede’s loved ones and community as they grieve this unimaginable loss.”
The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) said in a press release on July 1 that a visitation for Gaede will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 3. Funeral services will happen at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 5.
Both the visitation and the funeral services will be open to the public at the Huck Boyd Community Center at 860 Park Street in Phillipsburg. Gaede will be buried at the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery located at 576 West Osage Road in Stuttgart.
