Two juveniles charged for alleged fatal shooting of Camden teenager

(WPHL) — Two juveniles have been charged after they allegedly shot and killed a teenager in Camden.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the shooting occurred on June 6 at 12:35 p.m. on the 1500 block of Thorn Street.

Police were called for reports of a person shot.

When they arrived, they located the 16-year-old Xyere Brooks, suffering from a gunshot wound inside the residence.

The victim was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 2:15 p.m.

Through their investigation, police determined multiple juveniles were in the home at the time of the shooting.

A 16-year-old male had brought the gun into the home, and a 12-year-old girl had recklessly discharged the weapon, police said.

On July 1, both juveniles surrendered themselves to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office
Office.

The 12-year-old was charged with one count of 2nd -degree Manslaughter and one count
of 2nd-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

The 16-year-old was charged with one count of 2-nd -degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
