1 person dead after drowning accident near West Point Dam

LaGRANGE, Ga. (WRBL) — Troup County officials have identified a man that died in a drowning accident near West Point Dam.

On July 1, Troup County police received reports of a swimmer in distress at R. Shaefer Heard Park. Local emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene and confirmed the swimmer did not resurface.

Police say at 10:45 p.m., divers from the Troup County Fire Department Dive Team recovered Larenz Collins, 22, from the water.

Police say this appears to be a tragic swimming accident at this time.
