SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — A Slidell man pled guilty to internationally transporting child sexual abuse materials following an investigation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

According to the United States Department of Justice, the investigation began at the Dulles International Airport in Dulles, Virginia, where 39-year-old Richard Isla Talens was found to have taken, from the Eastern District of Louisiana to Istanbul, Turkey, an Apple MacBook with child sexual abuse materials on it.

Talens’ home in Slidell was then searched by Homeland Security Investigations agents, leading to his arrest and charge of transportation of materials involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

Now that he has been found guilty, Talens faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years, as well as a fine of $250,000. After he is released from prison, he faces a term of supervised release between five years and up to life. He will also have to pay a $100 special assessment fee.

Sentencing is planned to take place on Sept. 18.
