Man arrested months after double shooting, robbery that left famous chef hurt, Hyattsville police say

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A man was arrested in connection with a double shooting and robbery that left two people hurt last year, including Chef Tobias Dorzon, the Hyattsville Police Department (HPD) announced on Monday.

According to court documents, a man and a woman were dropped off by an Uber on Kirkwood Place just before 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2024. As they exited the vehicle, a group of suspects got out of a different car — a white Infiniti SUV — and began shooting at the pair.

The suspects approached the man and took items from him as he lay on the ground at gunpoint. The suspects then re-entered the SUV and fled the scene, taking an $80,000 watch, $15,000 custom diamond necklace, an iPhone, an Apple Watch, a Louis Vuitton bag and thousands of dollars in cash.

In total, about $99,400 was stolen from the two, according to court documents.

The male victim was later identified as Tobias Dorzon, a beloved chef from the Hyattsville area. He was in critical condition after being shot several times.

Council member Wanika Fisher described him as a “valued member of the District 2 community, and my dear friend,” in a statement released shortly after the shooting.

The woman Dorzon was with also sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

According to charging documents, police found the Infiniti SUV a few days after the shooting and learned it had been stolen from Capitol Heights in October. Through their investigation, police said they identified 21-year-old Devin Demetrius Spivey as a suspect in the case.

He and the other suspects involved reportedly followed the pair’s Uber from where they were having dinner at Ruth Chris Steak House in Washington, D.C., to the scene of the shooting in Hyattsville.

He was arrested on Friday, June 27, 2025, more than seven months after the double shooting and robbery. Spivey was handed a slew of charges, including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery and stalking.

HPD Chief Jarod Towers called his arrest a “crucial step toward justice for the victims and safety for our community.”
