Louisiana leaders urge community to ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ ahead of 4th of July holiday

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — July 4 is fast approaching, and so is the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over law enforcement campaign.

Louisiana leaders gathered at the Old Ferry Landing in Port Allen at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, to discuss the campaign, which is centered around the holiday.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill was joined by West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Jeff Bergeron, and Louisiana State Police Superintendent Col. Robert P. Hodges.

Murrill says law enforcement will be on high alert across the state, looking for impaired drivers, including boaters.

“If you choose to drink and drive in Louisiana, then you will be arrested and you will be prosecuted,” Murrill said.

The attorney general suggested Uber, Lyft, or even asking a family member for a ride as alternatives to driving while impaired.

“Don’t get behind the wheel. We don’t need to see another parent lose a child … it’s just not worth it,” she went on to say.

Louisiana State Police Superintendent Col. Robert P. Hodges echoed similar sentiments. He shared that troopers will be on patrol statewide.

“We’re here to prevent tragedies,” the Colonel said.

“If you’re impaired, don’t drive,” he added.

West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Jeff Bergeron announced deputies will be increasing patrols throughout the parish.

“Your choices impact more than just you,” Bergeron stated.

“Let’s work together to make this Independence Day a safe one for everyone,” the sheriff finished.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry declared July 2-6, 2025, as Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Enforcement Week.
