Want a say in WV conservation? The DNR would like to hear from you

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Want to have a say in the state’s conservation efforts? The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is inviting the public to voice their thoughts on West Virginia’s State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP).

According to a press release from the WVDNR, “the SWAP guides the WVDNR’s efforts to manage and conserve West Virginia’s diverse wildlife and natural habitats.” There are 21 focus areas in the plan, but residents interested in a specific region or areas near them can read the plan for a particular area if they want. You can find the individual plans for all 21 focus areas on the WVDNR’s website.

“These open house meetings are a chance for West Virginians to take an active role in conservation,” WVDNR Director Brett McMillion said in a press release. “Public input is vital to our work, and hearing directly from our residents helps us shape programs that reflect the values and needs of West Virginia.”

Three open house meetings will be held throughout the month at the following locations from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • July 16 – Morgantown, West Virginia University, Percival Hall Main Lobby
  • July 17 – Martinsburg, James Rumsey Vocational and Technical School
  • July 30 – Alum Creek, Claudia L. Workman Wildlife Education Center

The WVDNR also asks members of the public to complete an online survey to share ideas about programs or services they wish were offered by the DNR.
