WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) – Bradley International Airport (BDL) has officially opened its newly constructed exit corridor, providing more direct access for passengers to baggage claims and shuttles.
Construction has been underway since April 2023 to add two corridors to the east and west sides of BDL’s main terminal, now permanently closing the center exit lane. This terminal will soon be reconfigured to expand the security checkpoint, allowing for more screening lanes and queuing space for passengers waiting to be screened.
The corridor in the airport’s east concourse opened to passengers in June, with the west side corridor expected to open later this summer. The two exits will have two meet and greet locations, giving passengers quicker routes to car rentals and ground transportation on BDL’s arrivals level.
“The construction at Bradley International Airport has been years in the making. We are pleased to see the first of these key projects nearly completed,” said Michael W. Shea, Executive Director of the Connecticut Airport Authority. “These exit corridors, and the other ongoing construction, are part of our long-term strategy to really optimize the flow and functionality of the terminal and ensure we are meeting the demands of current and future air travel growth at Bradley.”
BDL is additionally working to construct a new 80,000-square-foot inline baggage screening facility to house explosive detection machines for the airport. The building will be built behind the Sheraton Hotel, carrying checked bags from the airline ticket counters directly to the facility across a mile-long conveyor belt. This project is estimated to be completed by the end of 2025.
