ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced nearly $20 million in funding for libraries across the state, including $397,000 for the Rockford area.
“A library is more than just a building with books, it’s the epicenter of opportunity, discovery and community connection,” Giannoulias said. “From early childhood education to workforce development, libraries empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Properly funding our libraries will ensure that they are able to continue generating an outsized impact in communities across Illinois.”
Libraries in Rockford, Loves Park, Cherry Valley, and Belvidere will benefit from the funding through the Secretary of State’s Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grant program.
The money will fund new services, such as public programming, dual language opportunities, internet access, personnel, and more.
