Monday hot & humid; pop-up storms possible in afternoon across Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) — Monday kicks off the work week with warm and quiet conditions as the 70s have taken hold across the Carolinas. We’ll stay relatively warm throughout the morning as winds stay light and variable through most of the day.

Skies will be mostly sunny for the first half of the day before clouds build heading into Monday afternoon. Highs will settle near 90 degrees, but the humidity will make it feel like the mid to upper 90s during the peak heating hours of the day.

Be sure to hydrate and take breaks in the shade and air conditioning wherever possible. Storms will start to pop during the peak heating hours of the day and linger into dinnertime. Look for rain to be widely scattered and short-lived before tapering off overnight.

Lows will bottom out in the 70s tonight with clouds lingering as we head into Tuesday. Temperatures will rebound into the upper 80s on Tuesday as we track an approaching cold front from the west.

Afternoon storms are likely on Tuesday, with a marginal risk for severe weather expected for our entire area Tuesday afternoon. Storms will have the potential to pack a punch in the form of damaging winds, which can lead to a few downed tree limbs and spotty power outages.

We’ll see upper 80s on Wednesday with a few pop-up storms possible, but much drier air settles in through the second half of the work week. We’ll be sunny and hot as the 90s return heading into the second half of the week.

We’ll look mostly dry come the Fourth of July on Friday, but a low storm chance settles back in heading into the weekend.
