PINEVILLE, La. (WNTZ) — A Louisiana man has been charged in connection with a violent home invasion in Pineville earlier this month in which an elderly couple was robbed, one victim was sexually assaulted and their home was set on fire, police said.
Calvin Williams, 43, was charged Friday with multiple felonies, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree rape and arson, according to the Pineville Police Department.
Officers responded on June 20 to the 100 block of Hilton Court after reports of a home invasion. Investigators determined the suspect entered the residence armed with a handgun, demanded money and firearms from the homeowners, and sexually assaulted one of the victims during the attack, police said.
The suspect also allegedly set fire to the home before fleeing the scene. Police did not release details about the victims’ conditions.
“This heinous and unspeakable act of violence has deeply impacted our community,” Pineville Police Chief Fore said in a statement. “We will utilize every available resource to ensure this individual is held accountable for his actions.”
Williams faces charges of two counts of attempted first-degree murder; two counts of false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon; one count each of aggravated burglary, home invasion, first-degree rape, obstruction of justice and arson; and two counts of aggravated assault.
Police said Williams was released from custody on June 13 and was on parole stemming from a prior conviction. Investigators have spent more than 100 hours on the case so far, and the investigation remains ongoing.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims as they navigate this incredibly difficult time,” police said. “We are committed to seeking justice for them and for our community.”
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
