ERATH, La. (KLFY) — A woman was killed while walking on La. 14 just outside Erath Friday night, authorities said.

The crash claimed the life of Carol Polk, 35, of Erath.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a fatal crash just after 11 p.m. Friday involving a pedestrian on La. 14 near Callahan Street in Vermilion Parish.

Investigators said Polk was walking westbound in the left lane on La. 14 when a 2021 Nissan SUV also traveling west on La. 14 hit her.

Polk died at the scene. The Nissan’s driver was uninjured.

The Nissan’s driver was not suspected of being impaired and provided a voluntary breath sample, which showed no alcohol detected.  A standard toxicology sample was collected from Polk and is pending analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
