BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Better Business Bureau of South Central Louisiana is alerting the public to be on the lookout for fraudulent job offers.
The nonprofit organization said it has recorded a larger-than-usual influx of ScamTracker reports involving fake offers.
The offers are being sent via email and text. The BBB said the scammers are using companies like Target, LinkedIn, and Amazon.
They are offering high-paying remote jobs that do not require a lot of work, according to the BBB.
Some things to look out for regarding the scam include receiving an unsolicited job offer through messaging apps or text, or an offer to do simple online tasks for unrealistic benefits or pay.
Another red flag would be if you are asked to contact the person by Telegram or WhatsApp.
Scammers may also ask you to give them banking information or pay upfront, the BBB said.
The nonprofit organization provided a few tips on what you can do to keep yourself from being a victim of this scam.
- Find the company’s official website.
- Do not pay money to access tasks or get hired.
- Find other ways to communicate besides Telegram or WhatsApp.
The BBB said, “If something feels rushed, secretive, or ‘too good to be true,’ walk away.”
You can report a scam message at BBB ScamTracker or the Federal Trade Commission.
