ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A woman was shot and killed late Saturday night in South Abilene, and a man is in custody on a murder charge, according to Abilene police.
Just before 11 p.m. on June 28, officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Ivanhoe Lane. When officers arrived, they secured the scene and found a woman inside the apartment, dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Steven Pena, was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Taylor County Jail. He has been charged with first-degree felony murder.
Police confirmed that the next of kin has been notified. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Aleisha Cabrera. Authorities said the couple’s 1-year-old daughter was inside the home at the time of the shooting and has since been placed in the care of Child Protective Services.
The investigation remains ongoing.
