Marjorie Taylor Greene appearance in Huntsville met with protest, Moms for Liberty unphased

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) —  U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene visited Huntsville Saturday night to speak at the annual Moms for Liberty fundraiser.

The appearance was met with some opposition as protestors said they didn’t want the Georgia Congresswoman to feel welcome.

“I hope that it says what we’ve been saying the whole time Marjorie Taylor Greene you are not welcome in Huntsville, get out,” Geoff Angle with 50501 said.

“This protest is a part of a weekend of resistance and community building. We are protesting Moms for Liberty and Marjorie Taylor Greene coming to Stovehouse and spewing their hate into our community on the anniversary of Stonewall,” Angle said.

Moms for Liberty said the fundraiser was sold out. Organizers acknowledge that Taylor Greene brings controversy with her, but said that she helps elevate their mission at a national level.

“We have a lot of issues going on with parental rights and the protection of kids, not just in Madison County, but across the state,” Moms for Liberty Madison County Chairwoman Emily Jones said. “While she may bring some controversy with her, she brings a lot of awareness and it helps parents to really step up and really understand what’s going on.”

Moms for Liberty said the event raised money for the local chapter and helped the group advocate for their mission.

Despite the protest, Moms for Liberty seemed unphased as the group went on with its fundraiser.

“We’ve actually not heard anything until we stepped outside so it’s a packed house in there and we’ve really not heard anything or seen much of anything so we are really focused on raising awareness for our mission and staying focused on that,” Jones said. “I’ll be completely transparent, our focus is 100% on our event, raising awareness on our mission and getting more people engaged in our fight.”
