LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – We’ve seen widespread showers and thunderstorms across the area leading to rain cooled air settling for tonight. All storms come to an end tonight.
Sunday will likely start out with a few storms already in progress. Temperatures will climb quickly in between the storms before widespread rain forms up around midday. These storms will bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and plentiful lightning to the area. By the evening hours, rain chances back off as things settle down for the nighttime hours.
In the tropics, Tropical Depression “Two” formed in the southern Gulf – Bay of Campeche. It will likely strengthen some through the next 24 hours before it moves into the Mexican coast. The next name up is “Barry”. “Two” will bring heavy rainfall to the Mexican coast that could cause flooding in coastal towns. Acadiana will not see any major impacts from “Two” beyond increased rain chances Sunday and higher swells off the coast.
Locally, we will see drier conditions heading into next week as Saharan Dust settles overhead. This will lead to vivid sunrises and sunrises and also aggravate allergies. Rain chances will only be around 30 per cent each day as temperatures climb into the mid 90s during the afternoon hours. July 4th looks relatively dry with just a few afternoon storms.
