MARSHALL, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — Live! in the Community with the Cares Krewe surprised a dispatcher who lost everything in a fire.
Kierra Wilbert, the Marshall, Texas dispatcher with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, shared with the Cares Krewe that she was taken to a family member’s home because she was not feeling well and received a call from her coworker, who was trying to figure out whose home was on fire.
Sadly, it was Kierra’s home that was engulfed in flames, where she was supposed to be, but thankfully, she was not.
Live! in the Community with the Cares Krewe was hoping to uplift Kierra with some items that would help her get back on her feet.
With the generous donation from Live! in the Community and the Cares Krewe, we were able to gift her flowers, a card, and a $500 Visa gift card to help Kierra through this difficult time.
“Nothing like a sunflower to make you smile,” said Josh Robinson, Vice President of Marketing – Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana.
Kierra shared how her family, coworkers, and community have rallied around her and her family to provide support in numerous ways.
“You can’t get through things like this by yourself. So to have that support from family and friends and everybody around you, people I don’t know, you know, I don’t know, have, sent me well-wishes, words of encouragement, prayers. You can never get enough prayers. If you can’t do anything other than that, just shoot me a prayer. I appreciate that. It’s great to have everybody around you supporting you and wanting the best for you,” said Kierra, the Marshall, Texas dispatcher.
Sheriff B.J. Fletcher with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office expressed what a remarkable person and coworker Kierra is, and recognized the need to help community members in need.
“The fact that y’all are doing that is over and above anything that could ever be asked for. And it takes people like that, to do that. We set up an account at Texas Bank and Trust here in Marshall. In Kierra’s name, for donations or people who want to help. And if we can do anything we can do that will help her get back on her feet and help her children and her husband get back on their feet and continue their path in life. And I think that’s what we should do,” said B.J. Fletcher, Sheriff of Harrison County, Texas.
