Prime Day Splurge: Why Texans Will Be Big Spenders This Year

DALLAS (KDAF) — Everything’s bigger in Texas, including the leftover cash. With an average of $1,075 remaining each month after covering basic living costs, Texas residents are heading into Amazon Prime Day with more spending power than most Americans, according to a new study by Chicksx.com.

The research analyzed median income and essential expenses—including housing, healthcare, food, and transportation—to determine how much money residents in each U.S. state have left over. Texas landed near the top, with more than a thousand dollars in discretionary funds. That places the Lone Star State among 13 states where residents have more than $1,000 left after bills each month.

And with Amazon Prime Day just around the corner, that extra cash is expected to translate into major online spending across the state.

“Having little to no money left over at the end of the month doesn’t just stop families from doing fun things, like going to a movie or grabbing ice cream. It stops them from building an emergency fund,” said Al Alof, a spokesperson for Chicksx.com.

States like West Virginia and Louisiana, which rank lower in leftover income, are at greater financial risk, the study suggests—particularly if an unexpected cost, like a medical bill or home repair, arises.

As Amazon Prime Day approaches, this insight into financial breathing room reveals more than just shopping potential. It underscores the importance of local economic conditions, cost of living, and income equity across the nation.
