JEFFERSON, La. (WGNO) — A vehicle passenger is dead and the reported driver was arrested following a single-vehicle crash that happened in Jefferson on Friday, June 27.
According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop B began investigating the crash, which happened on Jefferson Highway near Labarre Road, shortly before 1 p.m.
Troopers say 37-year-old Teodoro Leiva Gomez, of Jefferson, was heading west on Jefferson Highway in a 2011 Nissan Altima and, for reasons being investigated, ran off the road into the median, crashing into an electrical pole.
The front seat passenger was reportedly unrestrained, seriously injured, and died on scene. Gomez was properly restrained, minorly injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Gomez allegedly showed signs of impairment and was arrested. After he was released from the hospital, he was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on vehicular homicide, DWI (second offense) and other traffic related charges.
