The LSP reported the crash happened on Louisiana 18 near Avondale Garden Road around 7 p.m.
LSP officials said an initial investigation shows that 49-year-old Rene Davis was driving a Ford east on Louisiana 18 when the vehicle traveled off the road.
Troopers said Davis then lost control after overcorrecting, drove off the left side of the road and hit two pipes.
Davis suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. LSP officials said Davis was unrestrained at the time of the crash.
According to the LSP, “Impairment is believed to be a factor in this crash.”
The investigation is ongoing, and routine toxicology samples were collected.
