Hunting For Love: Couple says ‘I do’ at WV Bigfoot Festival

SUTTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — As enthusiasts from across the country discussed the hunt for Bigfoot, two people had already found what they were looking for — a lifetime of love, spent together.

Meet Christy Chaffin and Ron Howes, two Bigfoot fans who got married at this year’s West Virginia Bigfoot Festival in Sutton. Christy, a resin artist who focuses on cryptids, and Ron, a Bigfoot speaker who also works to raise awareness of PTSD in veterans, met each other at a Bigfoot event, got engaged at a Bigfoot event, and got married at a Bigfoot event on Friday evening.

“It’s a community, and getting married at a Bigfoot festival, it was what we wanted to do because we’re a part of the community,” Christy said after the ceremony. “We want the community to be stronger, and that’s really what it’s all about.”

Because many of the couple’s friends are part of the Bigfoot community, holding their wedding at the West Virginia Bigfoot Festival made it easier to gather them all in one place. Besides that, the two wanted to bring attention to the positivity in the Bigfoot community at large and its ability to bring people together through a common interest.

“Bigfoot has done this; it’s brought this whole community together,” Ron said. “I was promoting a show and she was set up next to me—her as a vendor and me as a speaker. Us coming together brings those two worlds together.”

The ceremony was officiated by none other than Bigfoot himself (who officiates weddings in the Morgantown area!) and was attended by a handful of Bigfoot groomsmen and, of course, Mothman too.
