Natchitoches, La. Andrew Whitworth or “Big Whit” as they call him, will join elite company tomorrow in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
The Monroe native played high school football at West Monroe where he won two state championships under head coach Don Shows, who is in the LSHOF.
While getting recruited for college, it was his dream to play tight end at Florida. His dreams would soon flip when he got recruited by Nick Saban and LSU. Whitworth would take his talents to Baton Rouge where he would transition from TE to the offensive line. He would go on to excel at this position, helping the Tigers win a national championship.
In 2006, he began his 16-year stint in the NFL, playing for both the Bengals and the Rams. His career included four Pro Bowls, Super Bowl championship and the NFL’s prestigious “Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.”
Whitworth called it a career in 2022 and is currently an NFL TV analyst for Amazon Prime. Tomorrow his name will sit beside legends in Louisiana sports history.
