WILKES COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Three people were killed and two others were injured in a head-on crash in Wilkes County Friday evening, according to a press release from the NC State Highway Patrol.
Around 7 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal crash on Red White and Blue Road near Ruth Linny Road, where a 2003 Jeep Liberty traveling north on Red White and Blue Road crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with a 2018 Nissan Altima that was traveling south.
The driver of the Jeep, Randy Lee Johnson, 62, of Wilkesboro, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, officials said.
The driver of the Nissan, Johnathan Andrew Laws, 34, of Roaring River, was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Elkin, where he died.
A backseat passenger, Vickie Gustafson Key, 72, of Roaring River, died at the scene.
Two additional passengers were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Red White and Blue Road was closed for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation. The initial investigation does not indicate that speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
