SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Salt Lake City Fire say they are working on fighting a fire that has spread into dry grass near the Jordan River.
The incident happened off I-215 near 2115 West Indiana Circle in Salt Lake City.
Captain Tony Stowe with Salt Lake City Fire Department said initial reports indicate that this was a grass fire that affected a local business and burnt several vehicles.
Stowe said it was a “fuel-load issue” and 18 semi-trucks were involved in this incident.
Initial calls came around 3:30pm. No injuries have been reported at this time.
“This time of the year we are not happy having a grass fire here, but if it affects any structures or vehicles it’s definitely more concerning for specifically our urban interface and we try to educate and prevent the extension in to neighborhoods and businesses like this,” Stowe told ABC4.com.
One bystander told ABC4.com that he could see propane tanks across the train tracks, and he said that he heard that firefighters were concerned about stopping the fire from spreading there.
