Pleasant Grove man charged with producing CSAM of a relative, documents say

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (ABC4) — A Pleasant Grove man has been charged with allegedly creating child sex abuse material (CSAM) of an underaged relative.

Bryan Pete Marx, 24, has been charged with 13 counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. He is also charged with sexual assault of a child in Texas, a first-degree felony in that state.

According to court documents, on February 18, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that involved CSAM. Officers used location data from the tip to locate the address of Marx’s apartment.

At the apartment, law enforcement spoke with two other male individuals, who provided their account information and electronics. They denied viewing or using the social media programs listed in the tip to law enforcement. The two males told officers that a third individual also lived at the apartment and was active on various social media platforms.

Officers made contact with this third male, who was identified as Marx. He denied viewing any type of sexual material, but refused to provide his social media account information. A search warrant was obtained to check his devices and accounts for CSAM. Sexual photos were located, but officers were unable to determine the age of the person depicted.

Shortly after the search of his devices, law enforcement from Texas contacted the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, saying that they were looking for Marx. They said that he was a suspect in the sexual assault of a teenage relative who lived in Texas.

During a review of Marx’s devices, officers located “hundreds of photos” of the underage relative on his device. Several of the photos of the teenage relative were found to be CSAM, depicting the teen in graphic sexual situations. Officers determined that he used the device to take the photos himself and was even in a few of them.

Several of the CSAM photos were provably taken while Marx and the underage teen were in Utah, and the victim can be seen wearing a bracelet with Marx’s name on it. Other images were produced through FaceTime screenshots while the victim and Marx were separated.

Marx was booked into the Utah County Jail on March 13, 2025. Authorities in Texas have also started a criminal case against Marx, and he is now being held on bond at the Williamson County Jail in Texas on charges of sexual assault of a child.
