Egyptian traveler pleads guilty to ‘violently’ kicking detection dog at Dulles Airport

DULLES, Va. (DC News Now) — An Egyptian traveler pleaded guilty to federal charges on Wednesday after he kicked a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agriculture detector dog that alerted on prohibited food products at Dulles International Airport (IAD).

Hamed Ramadan Bayoumy Aly Marie, 70, pled guilty to harming animals used in law enforcement. He was credited with time served, ordered to pay the detection dog’s veterinarian’s fee and then was removed from the U.S.

He left on a flight to Egypt on Thursday afternoon.

5-year-old Freddie, a beagle, and his handler were inspecting travelers’ baggage when Freddie alerted to one of Marie’s suitcases.

Freddie’s handler started questioning Marie, who “violently kicked Freddie with sufficient force to lift the 25-pound beagle off the ground.”

Officers immediately handcuffed him and turned him over to Homeland Security Investigations to be prosecuted.

A vet said Freddie had contusions to his right forward rib area.

Marie’s suitcase had over 100 lbs of agricultural food that was not allowed to enter the U.S.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said there were 55 lbs of beef meat, 44 lbs of rice, 15 lbs of eggplant, cucumbers and bell peppers, two lbs of corn seeds and one pound of herbs.
