Ed Daniels, Joe Scheuermann recognized ahead of Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame induction

NATCHITOCHES, La. (WGNO) — Ed Daniels and Joe Scheuermann were Friday Night Fastball’s dynamic duo for over a decade.

This weekend, both will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

The honor for former WGNO Sports Director Ed Daniels comes almost a year after his tragic passing, but it solidifies Daniels as one of the top sports icons to have ever worked in the state.

Ed’s wife, Robin Daniels, and daughter, Erin Daniels, are in Natchitoches this weekend for the induction ceremony.

“This is the culmination of his life’s work,” said Erin Daniels.

“Ed would be so humbled by all of this. And, I know he is. I know he’s looking down, just on the way over here. My radio was doing some funny things, and we’re like, well, there’s Ed, you know, there’s Ed. The family is very proud of Ed and all of his accomplishments. We’re very thankful and grateful for all of these accolades and that his contributions are recognized,” said Robin Daniels.

Ed served as WGNO Sports Director for more than 30 years and was a three-time Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year during that time.

His Friday Night Fastball co-host and Delgado head baseball coach, Scheuermann, is also a member of the 2025 induction class.

Scheuermann is Louisiana’s all-time winningest college baseball coach with over 1,200 career wins. He led the Dolphins/ baseball program to numerous Region XXIII titles and five trips to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction.

After wrapping up his 35th season as head coach, Scheuermann says that he is not allowed to retire until his mortgage is paid off.

With that being said, Scheuermann wants to spend the next five to six years building Delgado into the utopia of junior college baseball.

“One of my goals in life is to win a national championship,” said Scheuermann.

“I got this from Lou Holtz at one of the Sugar Bowls. Goals are important, but obtainable goals are more important. And, one of my goals is to win a national championship. I think it’s very obtainable at Delgado despite some of our handicaps. And we’re making some, some great headway,” added Scheuermann.

This weekend is a special one for the Scheuermann family. He joins his father, Raggs Scheuermann, in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony is set for 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Natchitoches Events Center.
