MINDEN, La. (KTAL/KMSS) The city of Minden proudly announced receiving an award they hope will keep their neighborhoods shining.

The City of Minden has been awarded five brand-new garbage cans through the Keep Louisiana Beautiful 2025 Trash Receptacle Grant Program.

The Keep Louisiana Beautiful Initiative, facilitated by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor’s Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism (DCRT), enables the DCRT to provide assistance to local governments, businesses, and various organizations dedicated to combating litter in Louisiana.

This is not a cash award grant. Eligible cities may request to receive up to five high-quality trash receptacles for installation in outdoor public spaces.

Minden, receiving the maximum award of five garbage cans, the new prize will be proudly displayed around the city at the following locations:

  • 714 Main Street
  • 618 Main Street
  • 520 Broadway Street
  • The corner of E. Union Street and Broadway Street
  • The corner of Broadway Street and Fogle Street

According to their webpage, the purpose of the Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) Trash Receptacle Grant is to reduce litter in communities throughout Louisiana by providing high-quality trash bins for placement in outdoor public spaces owned by the Grantee.

Research conducted by KLB over the past few years has shown that areas with well-installed, regularly serviced, and maintained trash receptacles experience a 78% decrease in litter.

The city is hopeful that the new garbage cans will play a key role in keeping Minden beautiful and serve as another success story for Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
