Detective Tommie Brown, with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), said the victim, Mikayla Smith, 29, of Raymond, got out of her vehicle to check on an issue with it before she was hit by a car.

According to Brown, the driver of the car that hit Smith went off the road and hit a tree. The driver was injured during the incident.

Interim Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard said Smith’s injuries were consistent with her being hit by a vehicle.
