TOOELE, Utah (ABC4) — Fire crews with the North Tooele Fire District have fought a staggering 19 outdoor fires in just seven days.
“We’re tired. We’re stressed. But we won’t ever stop. We will always be here for you,” a spokesperson with North Tooele Fire District said in a social media post Wednesday.
Fire crews say they fought two fires Wednesday afternoon alone, including one a Lake Point neighborhood near Tooele.
“We’re a small department, making do with volunteers and off-duty firefighters coming in on their days off. Often times responding on trucks that are two or even three decades old,” the post said.
Firefighters are urging residents to not burn weeds or use tools that spark in high grass. Target shooting tracer rounds, or explosive targets should also be avoided, the district said.
Most importantly, crews with North Tooele Fire are asking the public to adhere to fire restrictions. “We’ve got the firefighting covered. But we can all work on fire preventing.”
